Scarlett is named for the truly Southern survivor in Gone With the Wind. Just like her namesake, PAWS' Scarlett has been through some rough times but has come out on top. Despite her condition upon arrival, this dog is very happy and affectionate towards people and any other dog that will allow her company. While not aggressive, she can play a little "rough" and thus doesn't often have smaller dogs for company. She loves a good wrestling match, though! She would love to have a family with kids of any age. She's not a jumper when it comes to people or children-- she seems to inherently know she needs to be gentle and calm with little kids and even with adults who are timid. While she is very "interested" in cats, the right owner could teach her to be gentle with consistency and supervision. A lot of people don't view large-breed hounds as good pets or don't think that they can be acceptably housebroken. This is simply not true. Despite the fact that she loves going on walks and investigating the world with her nose and likes to wrestle with other playful dogs, a lot of her time is spent seeking out a good comfy spot to lounge. On sunny days she basks in the warmth, and when it's cold or nasty outside she curls up in whichever outdoor doghouse has the most plush blanket. At bedtime she trots to her pen, eagerly accepts her treat, and curls up in her bed. She would love a couch or a carpeted spot by the window to lounge in while her family is otherwise occupied. Our adoption process: It is our goal to match each animal with the most compatible home, based on their personality and temperament. In order to do this we ask that all potential adopters fill out an adoption interview, as well as talk with a staff member about what they are looking for in a new pet. By doing this we can better match adoptee with an adopter. Resulting in forever homes!
